Our Lower School encompasses students from Preschool 3 through Grade 4. Our Lower School faculty work to ensure that they are not only nurturing social and emotional development, but also supporting the academic potential of each student. At this level, St. John’s mission statement is incorporated with every aspect of life at school. A strong emphasis is placed on our commitment to kindness, honesty, respect, and compassion.

Within our Lower School, our experienced and creative faculty challenge and support each child to maximize individual growth and achievement.  They differentiate and individualize content, skills, and experiences to encourage critical and creative thinking as well as essential academic skills in all of our students. Our experienced faculty accelerate and challenge as well as enrich and reteach from our youngest to our oldest students.

Lower School students spend approximately two-thirds of their day in a homeroom-based program wherein they learn Reading, Language Arts (grammar, writing, spelling, and handwriting), Math, and Social Studies.  Within their homeroom time, students not only learn, but develop relationships with their classmates and teachers.   They leave their homerooms for instruction in Spanish, Music, Visual Arts, Physical Education, Religion, Library/Media Technology, and STEM ( incorporates our science curriculum) classes, which are taught by Specials teachers. Students attend Chapel services on a weekly basis.

The Upper School faculty, teaching students Grades 5 through 8, work to ensure that they are not only nurturing social and emotional development, but also supporting the academic potential of each student. At this level, St. John’s mission statement is incorporated with every aspect of life at school. A strong emphasis is placed on our commitment to kindness, honesty, respect, and compassion. The Traits for Success are implemented across all subject areas to promote the power of knowledge, character, and  community service.

Our Upper School faculty work to ensure that they are providing the most challenging and innovative curriculum to prepare every student to become an independent confident learner and well rounded person. The program emphasizes critical thinking, collaboration, active participation, and use of technology to enhance learning. The challenging curriculum elevates academic expectations as students engage in higher-level learning. An Advisory program provides students with social and emotional strategies, strengthens relationships between students and faculty and fosters a supportive school culture. Unique programs such as Science Fair projects, Student Council, Model United Nations, Declamation Day, and performing arts experiences enhance student learning. After school enrichment and Interscholastic sports are offered that highlight participation, teamwork, and skill development.
