HEAD OF SCHOOL SEARCH

The St. John's Board of Trustees has agreed on a two-part plan for leadership succession.  This plan is our best path forward, ensuring we ultimately find the right Head of School to lead us into the future.  We first will retain a new Interim Head of School for the 2025-26 school year.  All search firm responses to our Request for Proposals strongly recommended an Interim Head be appointed to offer sufficient time to engage the entire school community on the permanent Head search, post the position at a time that attracts the highest quality candidates, and provide the selected candidate with enough time to give their existing school (if applicable) proper notice to join St. John’s as permanent Head of School in July 2026.  More information on this process and our search firm selection is below.

IndySchool Consultancy – Our Search Partner

To assist us in identifying and securing the best candidate to lead St. John's into the future, we selected IndySchool Consultancy, a leadership search and consulting firm for independent schools.  Their expertise in educational leadership and proven track record of successful head of school placements will be invaluable throughout this process.

Tim Viands, President of IndySchool Consultancy, will be our lead consultant.   Tim grew up in Montgomery County and attended Towson University.  Prior to founding IndySchool Consultancy, Tim was Head of School at a boarding school in Ohio and a day school in New Jersey.  Tim and his IndySchool Consultancy team will assist us with both the interim and permanent Head of School searches.

Interim Head of School Search

IndySchool Consultancy will work closely with the Search Committee and Board of Trustees to define the desired leadership profile for the Interim Head of School that minimizes disruption for the community, ensures continuity for our students, and provides steady leadership for our faculty and staff.  IndySchool has a strong network of people with experience serving as Interim Heads of School to assist us in candidate selection. Our goal is to have our next Interim Head of School identified by late March or early April.

Permanent Head of School Search & Community Involvement

We believe that the selection of a new permanent Head of School is a crucial decision that requires input from our entire community.  In the coming weeks, we will share a detailed timeline for the search process and outline opportunities for faculty, staff, parents, and students to participate.  This will include surveys, focus groups, and opportunities to meet with Tim Viands from IndySchool Consultancy.  We also will launch a Head of School Search Webpage, the intent of which is to provide updates to the community.

This process will create the best possible profile we are looking for in the next permanent Head of School.  IndySchool will then work with the Search Committee to source candidates that meet this profile in the Spring and Summer of 2025 and interview candidates throughout the Summer.  Finalists will be invited to visit our campus in September and October of 2025 and all stakeholders will be provided the opportunity to meet with the finalists and offer feedback to the Search Committee.
